Cutting plastic requires a fairly aggressive helix to clear the chips before they can melt and bind in place. In some cases I have been able to make a conventional double-flute spiral bit work but this one works without even thinking about it. The cuts are clean. Expensive but worth it if you need precise cute in acrylic.

First bit showed up with a chip tip. Got a replacement. The second but Chipped the cutting edge after cutting one sheet of HDPE(starboard) used ramps and cut at recommended speeds and feedsUPDATE- AMANA IS REPLACING. BOTH COMPANYS EASY TO WORK WITH

This is my second purchase of this particular item. The first one broke off where the spiral flutes stop due to being misused. I didn’t sufficiently support the acrylic that I was cutting and it began to vibrate, causing the bit to wobble until the bit broke. I had imagined it would be stronger. The bit cut flawlessly up until that point. I learned an expensive lesson.

Works great for cutting acrylic without the big clogging up. For some reason I've been having much better luck with this 1/8" shank version than the 1/4" shank 1/8" O'flute which broke very easily. O'flute gives a great surface finish and eats through material with ease.

We ordered another of the plunge drills that said it was good with plastic among the various metal you could use it with, but it didn't work well at all and melted our plastic. The companyy immediately took it back and fed ex expressed the right drill bit. We cut slots in plastic HDPE for our products and this drill bit works like a dream. No melting or burning at all. Great product and amazing customer serivce. Thank you

Ordered one bit which broke within 5 seconds of use cutting acrylic at.05 depth 60 ipm. Got a replacement which came in the mail with a broke tip. Lost my money since couldnt get another replacement. Ordered another of same bit which also came in the mail broke. Got a replacement for order, which also came in mail with broke tip. 4 of these router bits all broke, 3 of which came in mail broke.

Great tool and great support. I wrote to Amana Tool to get info on the recommended speed for cutting plastic and they sent me a link to a chart with recommended spindle speeds, feed rates and depth. I used it to make some pieces out of HDPE and it worked great. The pieces needed to be cleaned after they were cut but it was easy to do. I cut the pieces with multiple passes at 0.0300" depth (my router is not heavy duty) and at speed of about 15000 RPM. There was no melting and no residue left on the bit after the cuts.

We needed to modify our product by cutting (trimming) part of the plastic off of each of our products in the same place. Doing it by hand wasn't an option since it was a very delicate area and one miss cut would ruin the product. We purchased a zentoolworks 12x12 CNC machine to use with this cutter. This cutter is great and gives a nice clean cut and does so with ease. I was amazed at how fast it would cut through the plastic without burning or melting it. The spiral cutter is top notch.We originally tried a rotozip bit for plastic which worked ok, but it would always melt the plastic and we had to slow the machine down so that it wouldn't flex the bit and give it time to cut. After buying this I am totally sold. It does a fantastic job! I will be buying more.
